Tips For Towing Your Travel Trailer in the Rain
It’s nice when the weather is clear and calm, making for good driving conditions, especially if you have to tow a travel trailer to a campground a few hours away. However, you can’t always get what you want, so you need to educate yourself on how to safely tow a travel trailer in rainy weather. Here’s what to know.
Balance Cargo & Stay Under Limits
Keep the cargo you load on your travel trailer balanced evenly between the left and right sides of your camper. You don’t want to apply too much pressure to one side of tires. Also, you should avoid overburdening your travel trailer with too much stuff. Use a highway weigh station to double-check your travel trailer’s weight to make sure you’re staying well under the limits outlined in your owner’s manual.
Don’t Speed & Use Your Lights
Wet roads and speeding create a recipe for disaster, so try to keep your driving speed five to ten miles below posted speed limits; in fact, go even slower if you need to. You want to have sufficient space to bring your entire towing setup to a full stop if you have to. You’ll also want to turn on your lights and make sure the connection to your trailer’s lights is strong.
