A pop-up camper can help to upgrade your camping experience while still offering you a good balance between comfort and experiencing the great outdoors. However, like any other type of trailer, your pop-up camper is going to get dirty and it’s essential to keep it clean. Allowing mold and mildew and dirt to build up on the camper can result in permanent damage to the fabric that forms its walls, which could potentially destroy it. Here are some tips on how to clean your pop-up camper.

Get Ready

Consult your pop-up camper’s owner’s manual to determine if there are any special cares you should take when cleaning your camper, or any products recommended for it. Avoid using harsh detergents that can break down the fabric. Take this time to remove any trash, food, and personal items from the camper that would otherwise get in your way while cleaning. In general, you should acquire the following tools:

  • Several sponges.
  • A few buckets.
  • A gentle cleanser, like dish soap.
  • Oxygen multi-surface cleaner.
  • Scrub brush.
  • Broom and dustpan.
  • Rags.
  • A source of fresh water.

Cleaning Canvas

Use a broom to sweep the surfaces of your camper, including the roof, to remove any dry dust and leaves to get to the part that needs to be scrubbed. Soap up one sponge and get the other one wet, then scrub down the interior and rinse with the clean sponge as you go. Then move to the exterior, swapping out new sponges as needed. If you have stubborn stains, use the soft scrubbing brush and a multi-surface cleaner to take care of them.

Let Dry & Waterproof If Needed

Allow your camper to air-dry or towel it off if you want. Every few years, you probably will need to reapply waterproof coating to the camper since it wears off over time. Follow the instructions on this product and make sure the camper is dry and clean before you begin.
